Damon and Young-Mi Cha

Damon and Young-Mi Cha

Damon grew up in New York City and became a Christian in his mid-twenties as a working adult while attending a church in Boston. Young-Mi grew up in Houston, TX, and while attending church for most her of life, grew up in a non-Christian home. She came to know Christ while studying art in college in Manhattan. They met in Boston. A few years later, they both had the opportunity to serve long-term in East Asia, which was a pivotal experience which not only instilled in them the importance of missions work but strengthened their desire to be missionaries. After marrying in 2003, they together discerned a call for overseas missions. They have served at Redeemer Presbyterian Church since 2011. In 2007, Damon was ordained as a teaching elder in the Presbyterian Church in America (PCA) after graduating with an M.Div. from Westminster Seminary California. He received a Ph.D. in Theology from Fuller Theological Seminary. Young-Mi has an M.A. from Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary. She has worked for in areas of communications, publications, and website, and has a passion for art. The Chas have two wonderful daughters, Aliya and Mikayla, who love Jesus.

We desire to serve the Lord in Nagoya, Japan by helping build strong, Christ-centered churches to nurture and equip the upcoming generations for Christ. In addition, we seek to share the gospel of Jesus Christ to those the Lord has placed in our communities.

Damon teaches at Christ Bible Seminary (CBS). The purpose of the seminary is to provide theological training and preparation of young leaders for gospel ministry. Young-Mi focuses on evangelism through building relationships with women and others in her community, leading women’s groups,  and finding ways to connect with people through art ministry. Our daughters were raised largely in Nagoya and attend Japanese schools.

We are a part of a diverse team at CBI, a partnership with Mission to the World (MTW), the mission-sending agency of the Presbyterian Church in America. A complete vision and history of CBI is available at cbijapan.org/jointheteam/index.php/about-cbi.
