JAPAN MISSIONS

The Japanese are the second-largest unreached people group in the world, with less than 1% professing faith in Christ. While many identify culturally as Buddhist or Shinto, most hold agnostic religious beliefs. In response to this deep spiritual need, JEMS partners with a variety of ministries in Japan to support and strengthen the church.

This vision traces back to the aftermath of World War II, when a conviction to share the Gospel with Japan was lit in the hearts of Christian Nisei—second-generation Japanese Americans. Yet, despite their calling, they were denied opportunities by major U.S. Christian denominations, who, in the wake of war, rejected missionaries of Japanese ancestry. Undeterred, a group of Nisei pastors founded JEMS in 1950 with one mission: to bring the hope of Christ to Japan. Today, that mission continues. Will you join us in reaching Japan?
